This position provides career-focused, hands-on training for individuals interested in becoming a Conyers Police Officer. Cadets may work in all divisions and units of the Police Department, assisting with operational, administrative, and community outreach functions, but will primarily be assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division.

Nature of Work:

Work includes exposure to law enforcement technology, investigative support, equipment deployment, and public interaction to develop the skills necessary for success as a sworn officer.

Minimum Education & Experience

Minimum Education: 

Standard high school diploma or its equivalent.

or,

Minimum Experience:

A Minimum of two years of experience as a Conyers Police Department Explorer is preferred.

Licenses(s): Possession of a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Necessary Special Requirements:

Must sign a contract agreeing to meet all other requirements to beome a police officer with the Conyers Police Depatment once the Cadet is within 6 months of his/her 21st birthday and a position for a police officer is available. This will include meeting all requirements listed in the Official Code of Georgia Annotated 35-8-8, as well as successfully completing the required basic mandate class and receiving a Georgia Basic Law Enforcement Certificate.

Essential Functons and Resposibilities

Operational Support:

  • Collect and review surveillance footage for cases.
  • Deploy and maintain Arlo and trail cameras in assigned areas.
  • Perform inspections, repairs, and troubleshooting of deployed cameras.
  • Deploy drones when directed.
  • Maintain, clean, and ensure operational readiness of CID spare units.
  • Assist CID in reviewing evidence, locating case informationm and uploading files to aystems such as Axon and Flock.
  • Assist with property and evidence audits, inspections, and purges.

Administrative & Technical Support:

  • Monitor citywide camera systems.
  • Assisst in the Real-Time Crime Center by:
    • Operating or support of flight of a Drone as First Responder whether looking for a suspect on a call for service, a search and rescue operation, or special event detail.
    • Answering phone calls in the Real-Time Crime Center if needed as support.
  • Operate law enforcement software and systems, including Axon, Flock, PowerDMS, Outlook, and Enterprise.
  • Maintain accurate logs, reports, and documentation for assignments.

Community Engagement:

  • Participate in community outreach events and Explorer Program activities.
  • Assist the Community OUteach Unit in public presentations and safety demonstrations.
  • Provide customer service to the public and respond to inquiries.

Training & Professional Development:

  • Attend and complete all training required of full-time police officers.
  • Learn and demonstrate the Vision, Mission, and Values of the Conyers Police Department.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Basic police work and departmental procedures.
  • Georgia state law and City of Conyers ordinances.
  • Operation and care of surveillance and communication equipment.
  • Safe use of ladders and tools for equipment installation.

Skills in:

  • Communicating (oral and written) with diverse groups. 
  • Comprehension and application o policies, procedures, and instructions. 
  • Problem-solving and critial thinking.
  • Using lawenforcement databases, software, and surveillance systems.

Ability to:

  • Stand, walk, and climb ladders (up to 20 feet) for extended periods.
  • Lift and carry equipment as required.
  • Remain calm and make sound decisions under stress.
  • Learn new technologies, procedures, and operational methods quickly.
  • Work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work independently and arrive on-time, prepare for work.

  • Police radio, mobile phone, department vehicles.

  • Notebooks, forms, and standard office supplies.
