Job Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is a semi-skilled position that assists in the maintenance and repair of city buildings and grounds, construction of special projects, and landscaping duties. This position requires working both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.

• Performs and responds to presentive and responsive maintenance on city buildings and grounds.
• Inspects buildings to determine maintenance and repair needs.
• Performs scheduled maintenance on city buildings.
• Builds and installs furniture.
• Paints interior and exterior walls.
• Maintains electrical wiring and fixtures; repairs or replaces light bulbs, ballasts, switches, receptables, and electrical controls.
• Maintains plumbing systems by repairing or replacing restroom fixtures, pipes, and drainage systems; unclogs blocked pipes.
• Assists in various related functions related to special projects or construction.
• When necessary, operates a dump truck (under 36,000 GVW).
• Mows grass and maintains landscaping, operates hand powered tools, line trimmers, chain saws, pressure washers, and other related small tools and equipment.
• Trims hedges; applies herbicide and fertilizer.
• Removes tree limbs and trees.
• Installs pine straw and mulch.
• Operates a variety of lawn maintenance equipment.
• Performs other related duties as required. 

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Completion of a standard high school diploma, GED or equivalent from a regionally or nationally accredited school.

Licenses(s): Valid Georgia Driver’s License.

Experience: Three (3) years' experience in general construction, maintenance, and landscaping; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds unassisted in uneven terrian. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to maneuver in low clearance areas.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including cold and high temperatures. The employee must be able to climb ladders and withstand heights; working confined spaces; tolerate environments containing dust, dirt, water and debris; and negotiate uneven terrain unassisted.
