Job Summary

The Civilian Probation Officer administers a caseload to monitor compliance with court-ordered term of probation. The principal duties are performed in an office environment although some fieldwork may be required to determine compliance with probation terms and conditions. The work is performed under the supervision of the Senior Probation Officer with considerable latitude granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.

  • Accepts and tracks the payments of fines, restitution and fees from offenders
  • Conduct intake and supervision of offenders and perform other duties as required by the Court
  • Provides a thorough review of all assigned cases at a minimum of once per month.
  • Ensures that non-compliance of court ordered conditions of probation by probationers is dealt with in an appropriate manner (i.e., warrants, revocations, etc.)
  • Completes probation intake process with probationers after being sentenced in court.
  • Investigates suspected fraudulent reports of community service work completed.
  • Investigates suspected plagiarized written research papers required by court order submitted by probationers.
  • Handles probation revocation hearings within the Municipal Court.
  • Attends all Municipal Court sessions, including court sessions held at the jail. This may require testifying to facts and circumstances surrounding a revocation hearing.
  • Assists the general public at the counter or on the telephone on all probation-related matters.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of relevant changes in laws and local ordinances.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all probation records.
  • Assists with Court tasks as needed.
  • Administer alcohol/drug screenings.
  • Updates the probation software with necessary/pertinent information when obtained.
  • Documents all contacts with a probationer (in person, court, phone, email, mail, etc.)
  • Schedules needed revocations for incarcerated probationers (at RCSO) in a timely manner. This may include coordinating with RCSO jail staff and the judge.
  • Prepares thorough, complete and accurate reports of all occurrences and incidents promptly.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of an Associates’ Degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university that is recognized by the United States Department of Education in criminal justice or closely related field. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.

Licenses(s): Possession of a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Any Special Requirement(s): Must be at least 21 years of age and must meet all other requirements listed in the Official Code of Georgia Annotated 35-8-8.
 

Experience:
Four to five (4-5) years’ experience in general clerical work, preferably in a municipal or third party probation provider.

 

Certification(s): (For a Certified Probation Office) State of Georgia Municipal Probation Officer certification or Georgia P.O.S.T. Police Officer Certification.
